artist statement
My work explores and honors the Sacred in nature. Through dreamlike pastels, loose paintings of trees and light, paper altars referenced from a growing collection of found natural objects (relics), I engage with mystery and transcendence— a practice and pilgrimage of seeking awe over certainty.
about
Darcie Denton is an artist who works primarily in painting and drawing. She graduated with her BFA in 2021 and has been featured in four solo shows and various publications, exhibited work throughout the United States, and has published a poetry collection. She also works as a high school art teacher. Through her art practice, she seeks to find and depict the Sacred in nature. From small, memory-like paintings of trees in loose brushwork to the large, 3-panel piece “Portal,” she gently urges viewers to seek their own portals and walk through. In these pieces and more, her artwork serves as documentation of her own spiritual journey through mystery while also serving as quiet resistance against a hurried culture that has forgotten how to see.
